The West Virginia Save Our Streams program is offering a stream monitoring workshop from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, July 26 at Chief Logan State Park, located off Route 119 in Logan.
The workshop instructors will teach participants how to monitor streams using a bioassessment approach, which involves the collection and assessment of macroinvertebrates that live on the bottom of streams.
Those who complete the certification portion will be eligible to receive a monitoring kit.
The workshop is free, but participants are asked to bring a bagged lunch and beverages, including plenty of water, sunscreen and bug repellent. They are encouraged to dress in loose-fitting clothing and wear closed-toe shoes. Participants can also glue felt to the bottom of their shoes for increased traction.
