WVU wants FOIA suit dismissed
CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) — West Virginia University wants an open records lawsuit filed by a Pittsburgh newspaper dismissed.
WVU says in a recently filed response to the lawsuit that it has fully complied with Freedom of Information Act requests filed by the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. The newspaper sued WVU in Monongalia County Circuit Court last April, claiming the school would not release documents, including outgoing President Mike Garrison’s e-mail, cell phone and landline records.
WVU also says it wants a ruling that it did comply with FOIA and an order requiring the newspaper to pay its legal costs.
The newspaper wanted the records as part of its coverage of a degree scandal involving Gov. Joe Manchin’s daughter.
