MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (AP) — Interim West Virginia University President C. Peter Magrath (muh-GRAW) says he didn’t take the job because it’s a nice title and will get him into football games.

Magrath told The Dominion Post’s editorial board Thursday that he wants to be a steadying hand while helping find a permanent president. He also wants to ensure money continues to come in from the state and donors.

Magrath has no plans to replace leadership at the university, or make interim positions permanent.

Magrath was appointed interim president earlier this month and will officially take over Aug. 1.

Outgoing President Michael Garrison is stepping down in the wake of a scandal involving an unearned degree awarded to the governor’s daughter.
