HUNTINGTON — With five new schools being built at the same time, the district was bound to run into some overhead costs.

But on Tuesday, Dec. 4, Superintendent William Smith and Assistant Superintendent Mike O’Dell will seek board approval for $317,585 in work orders. Nearly $80,000 in work orders are for Barboursville Middle School, while another $202,753 is for the new Southside Elementary and Huntington Middle campus.

Three of the work orders for Ferguson Brothers at the Barboursville Middle School project and combine for $2,193. Another Barboursville Middle work order for BBL Carlton to remove roofing from the existing gymnasium, among other things totals $60,474. The school also has a work order for $17,244 for David Darnold Co. to demolish the hot water boiler and associated piping. All of the funding is set to come from bond money.

The work orders for the former elementary/middle school project includes a work order for $189,793 for Master Mechanical to replace the remaining roof, sheet metal, down spouts and gutters. The other, to the same company, is for $12,960 to remove additional trees and shrubbery. The funding also is from bond money. O’Dell said with such a big renovation, those change orders weren’t unexpected.

The other major change order is for the new Martha Elementary to add access control equipment, but the $29,288 will come from the School Access Safety Plan funding.

The 7:30 p.m. meeting also will include a presentation by the Huntington Museum of Art, and a new member will be appointed to the Cabell County Schools Foundation.

The meeting will be held at 2850 5th Ave. in Huntington.
