Thunder fifth in AAU basketball

BRANSON, Mo. -- Nine games in six days got to the West Virginia Thunder 11u girls basketball team.

Indiana's Finest defeated Thunder, 50-44, Wednesday in the AAU National Tournament. The Thunder finished 7-2 overall and fifth in the nation.

Jenna Burdette scored 26 points and Mychal Johnson added a double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds.

On Tuesday, the Missouri Valley Magic beat Thunder, 62-43, for its first loss. Burdette totaled 20 points and 10 rebounds.

Thunder came back Thursday and beat the Fairfax Stars, 43-36, to make it to the final eight. Johnson led in points with 11 and Terra Stapleton grabbed 13 rebounds.

In the afternoon, Thunder beat the Georgia Pistols, 49-43, after trailing by nine at the half. Burdette paced the Thunder with 20 points and Shawntell Parsons added 12 on four three-pointers.

Thunder finished the season 47-4.

Rounding out the team are Griffin Dempsey, Jordan Parker, Brooke Borich, Krista Maynard, Kayla Swann and Kelli Harrison.
