Meetings will discuss W.Va. power line plan
BUCKHANNON, W.Va. — The public will get an early chance to learn about a projected power line stretching from St. Albans to Martinsburg.
Allegheny Energy and American Electric Power are hosting a series of meetings in northern West Virginia to discuss the proposed Potomac-Appalachian Transmission Highline, or PATH, project.
The companies envision lines stretching some 250 miles from Kanawha County to the Eastern Panhandle.
They say the lines are needed to prevent blackouts, warning that the Eastern Panhandle and parts of Maryland could be out of power by 2012.
The first meeting is scheduled for Monday in Buckhannon, followed by meetings in Elkins, Romney and Davis later this week.
