TOLEDO, Ohio (AP) — Toledo authorities say a fire spread quickly from an attic at an apartment complex, destroying eight buildings and leaving more than 100 people homeless.
Toledo fire assistant chief Luis Santiago says residents at Hunters Ridge Apartment complex on the city’s south side reported that fireworks were set off just before the fire.
Fire officials say the blaze was reported at about 1:30 a.m. on Saturday. It was under control by about 5:30 a.m. No residents or firefighters were hurt.
Santiago says the fire moved through the attics of the interconnected buildings, which will be torn down by Saturday afternoon.
The Red Cross and Salvation Army have set up a shelter for displaced residents at a nearby high school.
