HUNTINGTON — Dickson Muchiri, president of the Marshall University Student organization Herd Around the World, presented Rotary President Karen Dickson with a $1,600 check on Monday, May 5.
Muchiri and members of Herd Around the World raised funds to benefit the Rotary International Service Water Project of The Rotary Club of Huntington.
The Water Project aims to provide clean water in West Africa by digging wells and installing water filtration and purification systems for entire cities, with the ultimate goal of eliminating the guinea worm parasite by 2010 in Ghana.
The partnership between Herd Around the World and The Rotary Club of Huntington has been so successful that the Rotary Club will sponsor the first-ever Rotaract Club on campus next year. Rotaract is a Rotary-sponsored service club for young men and women ages 18 to 30.
