HUNTINGTON — The Fraternal Order of Police Gold Star Lodge #65 will host a National Peace Officers’ Memorial Day Service this week.
It will be at 4 p.m. Thursday, May 15, in front of the main entrance of the Huntington Police Department, located at 675 10th St.
The event is a way to honor fallen law enforcement officers from the Tri-State, and to let their surviving family members know they are never forgotten. Flags are to be flown at half staff across the United States in honor of the nearly 18,000 officers killed in the line of duty in the country’s history, according to a release from the FOP.
HPD Chief Skip Holbrook will speak, as well as Gary Patton of St. Mary’s Medical Center Pastoral Care Services.
For Thursday’s service, the 600 block of 10th Street will be closed to vehicles from 3 to 7 p.m.
In case of bad weather, it will take place in the Huntington City Mission’s Funderburk Chapel at 11th Street and 7th Avenue.
