Police: Drug overdose likely killed 2 Ohio college students
ATHENS, Ohio (AP) — Police in Athens say a drug overdose probably killed two college students found dead in a bathtub in an off-campus apartment near Ohio University.
Police Chief Richard Mayer said Tuesday that a coroner’s preliminary report on the deaths of Ohio University student Kelly Armbruster and Hocking College student Christopher Theil ruled out drowning, and there was no evidence of significant trauma.
The report lists their deaths as a probable drug overdose. Police continue to investigate the case, and Mayer declined further comment.
Theil’s mother found her son and his girlfriend in the bathtub May 3. Both students were 22.
The mother told a 911 dispatcher she thought the couple had drowned.
