Students across W.Va. go back to class today
HUNTINGTON -- Students across the state of West Virginia are waking up a bit earlier today for the first day of school.
Cabell County starts its 28 elementary, middle and high schools, and buses start running at about 6 a.m., filling the roads and highways until after 8 a.m.
"We are ready and excited," Superintendent William Smith said. "The opening of school for students, teachers and staff is a new beginning -- fresh, like after a cool rain or the spring of the year, when all things seem new and we are energized to start all over again."
The new year also starts for students who attend Ironton City Schools in Ohio.
Students have a four-day week, followed by a three-day weekend due to the Sept. 1 Labor Day holiday.
