Has the icy raw winter made you more than a bit grumpy?
Angela Henderson: American Idol's Hollywood Week always brings high drama
The commercials for tonight's episode of "American Idol" tell us that it's the moment we've been waiting for. And I totally agree but for completely different reasons. They are, of course, referring to Ellen DeGeneres joining the judging panel. But I am referring to the arrival of my favorite part of the early episodes and sometimes of the whole season -- Hollywood Week.

Jean McClelland: Black memorabilia raises strong emotions, sheds light on dark past
It can be art, it can be history, it can be part of a culture, and it can be offensive. Much of the African-American memorabilia from the 19th to the mid-20th century fosters strong feelings. Some of it is considered racist, some of it is considered demeaning, some of it is considered insensitive, much of it is considered novelty, and all of it is considered history and collectible.
Food Network junkie gives up home brewing for chocolateering
HUNTINGTON -- The remnants of Walt Lewis' former fun are pushed up against the basement wall. The pool table is gone. Two pinball machines sit lonely, and the keg taps are dry on a refrigerator pasted with faded ribbons from Lewis' award-winning homebrew. Walt Lewis could care less. Brooke Waggoner brings ethereal style to Mountain Stage
Take one listen to Brooke Waggoner and you might be confused about her Nashville roots.
One of my earliest musical memories of really latching onto a song was being over at Chris and Kevin Lewis' house listening over and over again to Tom T. Hall records.
BOOK: Barboursville resident, Millard Kirk, has written and published a book, "An Appalachian Family," which is a family narrative spanning a period of 93 years. A few years ago, Millard realized that he knew little of his family's early history and that his children and grandchildren would not know it either if he didn't start researching and recording it for them. Thus, a book about his parents, Joseph and Ada Horn Kirk, and their 11 children was written telling about their migration from Martin County, Ky., to Mingo County, W.Va., from 1916 to 2009. Millard and his wife, Mary, have three children -- Marty who lives in New Mexico, Matt who lives in Fort Wayne, Ind., and Michelle Clancy who lives in Maryland. They have two grandsons, Micah and Daniel, who live in Fort Wayne. Millard's sister, Cordell Edwards, lives in Barboursville and his late brother, Ted, and his wife, Mary, have made their home in Barboursville, too. For more information about Millard's book, e-mail him at appybook10@verizon.net.
