Donald Lee and Joyce Lee Saunders were married on May 24, 1954, in Huntington, W.Va.
Don entered the US Air Force in February of 1952 and retired in June 1974 as an Air Force recruiter. Together, Don and Joyce were stationed at over 20 different duty stations, including tours in Libya, Italy, Germany and Cold Bay, Alaska.
Don later worked at the Veterans Administration as a benefits counselor, serving veterans and their families for over 20 years before retiring in 1993. He has been employed by Sam's Club for 20 years and was, for over 20 years, a Marshall University ticket taker.
Joyce, a homemaker and mother, worked at Stone and Thomas, and Anderson Newcomb before spending 20 years at Huntington Federal Savings and Loan.
Don and Joyce have been members of Grace Gospel Church in Huntington for 40 years. Don having previously served as the Chairman of the Missionary Committee. They are both active in their community, having been members of the Concerned Citizens of the Burlington Area since the organizations inception. Joyce served as CCBA treasurer for 30 years.
Don is the son of the late Ceburn Cecil and Gladys Irene Adkins Saunders. Joyce is the daughter of the late Joseph Lambert and Ora Dell Gillispie Chapman. Together, they have three grown sons, Dannie (Carla) reside in Worthington, Ohio; Terri (Lisa) lives in Lexington, Kentucky and Chris in Burlington. Don and Joyce are the grandparents of eight, and the great-grandparents of four.
As they have for the past 43 years, they reside in Burlington, Ohio. An anniversary celebration, with family and friends, is planned for August 3.
