Stephenses' 70th

Paris and Mildred Stephens of Poca, W.Va., are celebrating their 70th wedding anniversary. They were united in marriage Nov. 22, 1942, in Russell, Ky., the night before he left for Marine Corps basic training.

They did not see each other again until he returned from service in 1946. Paris was assigned to the Marine Corps 7th Field Depot and served in the Pacific Theater, including American Samoa, China and Japan during World War II.

Paris and Mildred are Logan County natives. They have been residents of the Kanawha Valley since 1963. Paris is a retired realtor, and Mildred is a retired bookkeeper.

Paris and Mildred are the parents of one daughter, LaMarr Myers and husband Larry of Poca, and one son, the late Paris Stephens Jr. They have one granddaughter, Emily Myers Duke and husband Matt of Cross Lanes.

Paris and Mildred are lifelong members of the Church of Christ. Paris served as an elder at Tyler Mountain Church of Christ and Teays Valley Christian Church, where he also served as a Sunday School teacher for many years. Mildred was active in the Ladies Group, Vacation Bible Schools and other church events. They are currently members of Gateway Christian Church in St. Albans.

Paris and Mildred have set an example of lifelong love and devotion for their friends and family. The couple celebrated with family at home on Thanksgiving Day.
