Humphreys' 35th

Nov. 03, 2013 @ 11:03 PM

Laura Page Pattie and Gordon Taylor Humphreys were married October 21, 1978, at Enslow Park Presbyterian Church in Huntington, West Virginia. Thirty-five years is a long time, depending on your point of reference.

As Page's brother, I find the whole thing to be living proof that there is a loving and benevolent God among us.

As Page and Gordon's grown children, we now know why they have made it this long. The compassion, love, time and investment they have given to each other and their children are a true example of how to make a marriage work.

Page and Gordon are now in retirement, and they both have found new hobbies to occupy their time and sanity in Wilmington, N.C.

Gordon loves the driving range at Cape Fear National along with learning the latest grilling techniques for barbequing outside.

Page has learned to listen to film directors when they say "Action!" or "Cut!" as a movie extra in Wilmington. She has been in a few films and even CBS' "Under the Dome." They both are enjoying sunny days near the beach and spending time with friends.

Page and Gordon have learned that marriage is a give and take and that with time you truly learn about one another, and 35 years later, they are still learning.

Congrats to you both, we love you and wish you another 35 years of bliss.

From your brother Allen Storm Pattie and Margaret Mary Layne, and your children Laura and Brian McDonnell and Taylor and Katie Humphreys.
