Kara Kristine Schultz and Justin Edward Garren were married on March 30, 2013, at the First Baptist Church of Hurricane. The Rev. Tony Garren, uncle of the groom officiated. Rev Charles Williams and Rev Jerry Losh assisted in the ceremony. A reception was held at the Sleepy Hollow Country Club in Hurricane.
Mrs. Garren is the daughter of Jeff and Kim Schultz of Hurricane. She is the granddaughter of Barbara Schultz of Charleston and the late Bo Schultz; the late Mona Brown McCallister, Toby McCallister Parsons, and the late Thomas McCallister. Kara is a 2007 graduate of Hurricane High School, 2011 graduate of Marshall University with a BS in Dietetics, 2012 graduate of Marshall University Graduate School, Magna Cum Laude, with a MS in Dietetics. Kara is a clinical dietitian at Charleston Area Medical Center, Memorial Division.
Mr. Garren is the son of Keith and Darla Garren of Hurricane. He is the grandson of Betty Lois Garren of Greenville, S.C., and the late Wayman Garren. He is also the grandson of James and Imogene Walls of Hurricane. He is a 2005 graduate of Hurricane High School and a 2010 graduate of Marshall University with a BA in Criminal Justice. He also graduated from the West Virginia State Police Academy in 2012 and is a West Virginia State Trooper.
The bride was escorted by her father and given in marriage by both her father and mother. Serving as maid of honor was Claire Pearson of Hurricane. Matrons of honor were Kristin Anderson of Beckley and Kristin Sunbury of Elizabeth, Ind. Bridesmaids were Nicole Childress, Leigh Ann Lilly, Abigail Mangus and Lila Mangus, all of Hurricane.
Best man was Joshua Garren, of Culloden, brother of the groom. Groomsmen were Jamie Bakacs of Brownsmills, N.J., Brett Bowles of Danville, W.Va., Casey Arthur, T J Hellyer and Jeremy Schultz, brother of the bride, all of Hurricane.
Guestbook attendant was Sarah Lawrence of Hurricane. Dianna Gibson, of Vero Beach, Fla., was the pianist.
The couple lives in Chapmanville, W.Va. They will be taking an Eastern Carribean cruise for their honeymoon.
