Healthy Programs, Classes and Screenings

HUNTINGTON -- A number of health-conscious classes, programs and screenings are scheduled in the Tri-State this week. Some of the activities offered in the area:

ALZHEIMER'S SUPPORT GROUP, 6 to 7 p.m., Tuesday, Dec. 11, Edwards Comprehensive Cancer Center, resource room, Cabell Huntington Hospital, 1340 Hal Greer Blvd., Huntington. The Senior Services Department invited anyone affected by Alzheimer's as a patient, caregiver or family member to participate in a monthly support group focused on coping with the disease. CROHN'S AND COLITIS SUPPORT GROUP, 6 p.m., Tuesday, Dec. 11, King's Daughters Medical Center, Health Education Center, 2201 Lexington Ave., Ashland. Free informal support group with presentations, information, diets, recipes and medication therapies. Meetings are for patients and their families affected with these diseases. MAN TO MAN: PROSTATE CANCER SUPPORT GROUP, 6:30 p.m., Tuesday, Dec. 11, Our Lady of Bellefonte Hospital, Bellefonte Centre, 1000 Ashland Drive, Russell, Ky. The group is free and refreshments will be served. For more information or to register, call 606-833-CARE.

HEALTH SCREENING -- ASHLAND, 1 to 4 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 15, Ashland YMCA, Ashland. Healthy Community Services at Our Lady of Bellefonte Hospital will offer free cholesterol, hemaglobin, blood sugar and blood pressure screenings.

SISTERS OF HOPE: BREAST CANCER SUPPORT GROUP, 5:30 to 7 p.m., Monday, Dec. 17, Edwards Comprehensive Cancer Center, Cabell Huntington Hospital, 1340 Hal Greer Blvd., Huntington. A support group for women with breast cancer. Refreshments are served. Dr. Shawn McKinney serves as the medical adviser. For more information, call 304-526-2443.

LOOK GOOD. FEEL BETTER, 2 to 3 p.m., Monday, Dec. 17, KDMC Center for Advanced Imaging, 2225 Central Ave., Ashland. This free program teaches female cancer patients beauty and skin care techniques to restore their appearance and self-image during chemotherapy and radiation treatments. Reservations are required and can be made by calling 606-408-7067.
