SOUTH POINT -- Milton Elementary's Sawyer Adkins, River Valley Middle School's Zachary Crow and South Point High's Jonathan McCormick were named winners of the Sam's Club Environmental Essay contest.
Participants in the three age categories had to choose from topics such as energy conservation, waste reduction and water.
Adkins, 10, wrote a paper on waste reduction that focused on recycling. He said there are plenty of alternatives to discarding items.
Crow, 12, wrote his paper on energy conservation. His paper talked about non-renewable resources and the consequences of not having control of consumption.
McCormick, 16, submitted two lengthy papers on waste reduction and energy conservation, referencing many resources and supplying numerous ideas to assist in both environmental alternatives. His winning essay was for waste reduction.
All three winners received a certificate and a $25 gift card to Sam's or Wal-Mart.
