Cabell Midland wins Tri-State Marching Festival

HUNTINGTON -- Cabell Midland High School's marching band was named grand champion of the Tri-State Marching Festival, held Saturday, Oct. 31, at Marshall University.

Spring Valley High School finished second, with Princeton Senior High School coming in at the second runner-up.

Cabell Midland also won the booster award and two out of four categories in the Class AAA division. The Marching Knights have now won a total of five Tri-State championships since 2000. They now hold the record for the most wins at the Marshall Festival. The group went undefeated this season, winning all six of the contests in which it participated, including James Monroe High School, Spring Valley High School, Huntington High School, Ripley High School and Herbert Hoover High School. The band also won first place in the Marshall Homecoming Parade.

Huntington High was first in color guard and third in percussion. Spring Valley also won the overall award for general effect.

In Class A2, South Point High School won first place for band and percussion and second place in both the color guard and drum major categories.

OVERALL MAJORETTES: James Monroe, Philip Barbour, Nicholas County.

OVERALL TWIRLER: Wirt County, Ritchie County, Riverside.

Class A1 awards

BAND: Buffalo, Shady Spring, Alexander (Ohio).

DRUM MAJOR: Riverside, Alexander (Ohio), James River (Va.).

COLOR GUARD: Riverside, Lincoln County, Ritchie County.

PERCUSSION: Buffalo, Ravenswood, Lincoln County.

Class A2 awards

BAND: South Point, James Monroe, Mt. Healthy (Ohio).

DRUM MAJOR: Wahama, South Point, Ft. Chiswell (Va.).

COLOR GUARD: James Monroe, South Point, McNicholas (Ohio).

PERCUSSION: South Point, McNicholas (Ohio), James Monroe.

Class AA awards

BAND: Wayne (Ky.), Meigs (Ohio), Blazer (Ky.).

DRUM MAJOR: Point Pleasant, Greenbrier East, Meigs (Ohio).
