WORKSHOPS: Two students from Huntington High School's honors program will be helping elementary students with reading and writing workshops as part of their graduation project.

Frances Lazell and Malak Khader will be holding the workshops from 4 to 5 p.m. Nov. 17, Dec. 1, Dec. 15, Jan. 5 and Jan. 19. The workshops are free and will be held at Gallagher Library, 368 Norway Ave., Huntington.

The students plan to use fun and interactive ways to get the young learners excited about reading and writing.

LIVE: Huntington High School's Theatre Department students will be presenting live skits as part of Friday Night Live. Two events are scheduled, including a 7:30 p.m. show on Thursday, Nov. 12, and a school-day performance on Friday, Nov. 13. Tickets are $5 for adults and $3 for students.

The show consists of original skits performed and written by members of the Huntington High School Theatre Department, and are approved by teacher Helen Freeman. The students get their creative ideas from the day-to-day happenings at Huntington High and humorous events that happen around the community and world. The previous shows have created long-lasting memories for the students and attending visitors.

WINNER: Barboursville native Hayden Ansinelli, a junior exercise science major at Miami University (Ohio), has been awarded as the best undergraduate research poster.

Ansinelli's poster, "A Structured Pediatric Rehabilitation Exercise Program Results in Increased Physical Activity and Fitness for Single Ventricle Children," was based on his undergraduate summer scholars' research.

Miami students presented 10 posters and one oral presentation at the meeting. A group of students also participated in an informal competition, placing third of 15 schools in the "Jeopardy" style contest. The group included Nicole Blaize, graduate student in exercise and health studies, and Kali Noonen and Matt Jolley, both senior exercise science majors.

ACCEPTED: Michael Stevens, son of Shawn and Anna Stevens of Fort Gay, has been accepted to the University of Northwestern Ohio in Lima, Ohio. He is scheduled to begin classes in June 2010, majoring in the automotive/high performance technology program. He is currently a senior at Tolsia High School.
