AG EDUCATION: Milton native Cassandra Morgan, who is a student at Potomac State College, recently conducted the farm animal station when kindergarten students from Keyser Primary Middle School visited the campus.

Morgan is the daughter of Shelley Morgan and will be a junior this fall. She is majoring in agriculture education and equine management.

SCHOLARSHIP: Caitlyn Pannell of Chesapeake has been named the 2009 recipient of the Christian Leadership Scholarship at the University of Cumberlands. To be eligible for the scholarship, an incoming student must demonstrate exceptional Christian service and leadership and be an active member of their church. Pannell is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Pannell and attends Big Branch Church.

DEAN'S LIST: Brianna J. Davis, daughter of Barry and Joyce Davis of Proctorville, has been named to the Ohio Northern University Dean's List for the spring quarter 2008-09. She is a third-year pharmacy major.

Nicole L. Meckstroth, daughter of Sheryl Houck of Huntington and Richard Meckstroth of Huntington, has been named to the Ohio Northern University Dean's List for the spring quarter 2008-09. She in majoring in pharmacy.

Amanda S. Wagner, daughter of Allen and Alda Wagner of South Point, has been named to the Ohio Northern University Dean's List for the spring quarter 2008-09. She is a fifth-year pharmacy major.

GRADUATE: Christopher William Kelley, a graduate of Rock Hill High School, graduated from Ohio Wesleyan University. He is the son of William F. and JoAnn Kelly.

Ryan Douglas Thompson earned a master's degree in accounting from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill this past semester.

DEAN'S LIST: Milton residents Joel A. Magnusson and Lydia E. Nyhuis were named to the Dean's List at Carson-Newman College in Jefferson City, Tenn.

COLORING CONTEST: More than 1,000 elementary students throughout West Virginia participated in the 2009 Smart529 State Fair of West Virginia Creative Coloring Contest. The 2009 contest featured the fair's "Farm Fresh Fun" theme. Student entries were judged on the quality of the coloring and the creativity of the farmer's name. First place winners receive $50, four State Fair gate admission tickets and an iPod Nano. All winners will be displayed during the 2009 State Fair.

The local winner is Chloe Perdue of Huntington, who won second place among third-grade entries with "Candy Corn."

GRADUATE: Thomas Gillespie of Ashland graduated from the College of William and Mary with bachelor's degree.

SCHOLARS: Two high-achieving elementary school students from Our Lady of Fatima Parish School will take part in the National Young Scholars Program this summer. Lauren Vega and Joseph Toumawill spent June 22-26 at the National 4-H Youth Conference Center in Chevy Chase, Md., the. St. Thomas More Cathedral School in Arlington, Va., and the Baltimore Lutheran School in Towson, Md.

"The National Young Scholars Program provides students with the opportunity to engage in hands-on, interactive learning, while challenging them in an intellectually stimulating environment outside of the regular classroom," said Marguerite Regan, dean of academic affairs for the program.
