Cabell, Wayne natives earn pharmacy degrees

MORGANTOWN -- Five area residents were awarded Doctor of Pharmacy degrees from the West Virginia University School of Pharmacy this spring.

Sean Lamont of Huntington, Danny Ray Lovins II of Kenova, Meghan L. Pittman of Ona, Sarah Spurlock of Milton and Robert Svingos of Barboursville were members of the School of Pharmacy Class of 2009.

Dr. Lamont is the son of Bob Lamont and Jayshree Shah. His memberships and offices held while studying at the WVU School of Pharmacy include being a member of the American Pharmacists Association-Academy of Student Pharmacists, being a member of the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists-Student Society of Health-System Pharmacists and serving as sergeant-at-arms for the Kappa Psi professional pharmaceutical fraternity. He also received the Alan C. Dressler Memorial Scholarship. Lamont graduated cum laude and will be completing a pharmacy practice residency at the Huntington VA Medical Center.

Dr. Lovins is the son of Olivia Sue Damron and Danny Ray Lovins. He was a member of the Rho Chi pharmaceutical honor society Alpha Mu chapter, the American Pharmacists Association-Academy of Student Pharmacists and the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists-Student Society of Health-System Pharmacists. Lovins also received several awards and scholarships including the Walgreens Pharmacy Scholarship, the Fruth Pharmacy Scholarship, the Rite Aid Scholarship, the Ralph Johnson Pharmacy Scholarship, Dean's List and President's List honors. Lovins graduated summa cum laude and will be employed in community practice in Barboursville.

Dr. Pittman is the daughter of Larry and Linda Pittman. Her memberships and offices held include serving as chair of the American Pharmacists Association-Academy of Student Pharmacists Heartburn Awareness campaign, being the APhA-ASP publicist, being a member and professionalism chair of the Lambda Kappa Sigma international pharmacy fraternity, being a member and secretary of the Phi Lambda Sigma national leadership society and member of the Rho Chi pharmaceutical honor society Alpha Mu chapter. Pittman's awards and scholarships include the Edward W. Rockis Scholarship, the Mary Ann Pavlick/Helen Pavlech Scholarship, the Dean's Scholarship, President's List and Dean's List honors. At graduation, she received the James K. Lim Award for academic achievement. Pittman graduated summa cum laude and she will be completing a pharmacy practice residency at St. Joseph Hospital in Lexington, Ky.

Dr. Spurlock is the daughter of Steve and Robin Spurlock. She was a member of the American Pharmacists Association-Academy of Student Pharmacists. Spurlock graduated cum laude and will be practicing long-term care in Barboursville.

Dr. Robert Svingos graduated cum laude and will be completing a pharmacy practice residency at the Huntington VA Medical Center.
