ACADEMY: A team of teachers from the Village of Barboursville Elementary has been accepted into the Governor's Academy for Teaching Excellence Infusing Technology Program.

There were 41 applications, and eight were accepted. Among them are Tanya Hill, Chrissy Wheeler, Marcy Johnson, Chris Pauley, Linda Smith and Kim Villars.

This two-year program is an extraordinary opportunity for schools to develop a learning community that engages students in critical thinking and problem solving skills by learning to infuse 21st century technology into the classroom.

This professional learning opportunity will equip the participants with resources and expert mentoring to engage in best-practice techniques for transformational uses of technology in the school and classroom.

Village of Barboursville will receive money for technology related supplies and expert mentoring.

SCHOLARSHIP: Two employees of the freestanding Chick-fil-A on Melody Farms Road near the Huntington Mall have been awarded Chick-fil-A national Leadership Scholarship.

John Castillo of Huntington and Yezenia Soto of St. Albans will each receive a $1,000 scholarship from franchise operator Larry Pittman. They are the fifth and sixth team member to be awarded the scholarship.

Castillo is studying biology at Ohio State University, while Soto is studying nursing at Marshall University.

"These team members are now part of a 35-year legacy of nearly 25,000 Chick-fil-A restaurant team members who have received this scholarship as they pursue their educational goals," Pittman said.
