Achievements & Announcements
GRADUATE: Matthew F. Price received his degree from Washington and Lee University on June 4. He majored in English and medieval and renaissance studies. He also participated in Phi Eta Sigma national freshman academic honor society, Phi Beta Kappa national academic honor society, University Scholars, Generals Christian Fellowship and was a resident adviser for first-year students.
He also completed his work study at the University Store, tutored in the writing center and received the Catherin Houston Campbell Scholarship in English. He plans to enter the Master's of Divinity Program at Duke Divinity School.
He is the son of the Rev. and Mrs. William F. Price of Kenova.
GRADUATE: Jessica N. Bergquist received her degree from Washington and Lee University on June 4. She majored in biology. She also participated in Phi Eta Sigma national academic honor society for freshmen, Alpha Epsilon Delta pre-med honor society, Phi Beta Kappa national academic honor society, the University Wind Ensemble, the Generals Christian Fellowship and was a resident adviser for first-year students. She plans to attend medical school.
She is the daughter of Jon E. Bergquist of Huntington and Donna M. Boster of Proctorville.
DEAN'S LIST: Jason K. Smith of Huntington was named to the Dean's List for the spring semester at the University of Hartford.
BEREA COLLEGE: Huntington resident Jacob Gunnell was named to the Dean's List at Berea College for the spring 2009 term. He also was honored at the Scholarship Day Academic Awards banquet in March and is the recipient of the 2009 Julia Braden Thompson Award.
Huntington resident Joyce Layne, daughter of Mary Layne, graduated from Berea College on May 24. She earned a degree in business.
ALDERSON-BROADDUS: Hannah G. Adkins, a natural science major from Kenova; Megan A. Smith, a biology and chemistry major from Huntington; Jilleann P. Wellman, a nursing major from Huntington; Jordan T. Blevins, a nursing major from Kenova; and Shinya T. Turley, a business administration major from Milton, were named to the Dean's List at Alderson-Broaddus College for the 2009 spring semester.
JUNIOR COLLEGE: Huntington Junior College will implement ImageNow software in its admissions, academics and financial aid departments in an effort to reduce paperwork and create a better digital database.
Creator Perceptive Software's technology will facilitate an integration between the program and the college's CampusVue system.
College officials say the program's instant document access will help with document sharing capabilities and boost employee productivity. The college expects to see benefits by eliminating large amounts of paper and manual processes.
"By reducing the college's dependence on paper, ImageNow will help us reduce paper costs and allow us to realize time savings by eliminating manual processes," said Cathy Snoddy, Huntington Junior College Financial Aid assistant director.
More than 350 institutions and 900 campuses worldwide utilize ImageNow to streamline processes and enhance productivity in a variety of departments.
SHOW CHOIR: Cabell Midland High School will sponsor a show choir mini camp from 9 a.m. to noon Wednesday through Friday, July 15 to 17.
Camp Rock is for kindergartners through eighth graders. Registration will take place at the door and is $50, which includes a T-shirt.
A performance for parents will take place at 11:30 a.m. Friday, July 17.
