Charleston's Clay Center starts summer camps
CHARLESTON -- The Clay Center in Charleston is holding four summer Discovery Camps, and all start in July.
The first, Physics Phun, runs Tuesday to Friday, July 8-11. The camp, for kids in kindergarten through third grade, will look at Newton's Laws of motion, magnetism, energy and light. The cost is $45 for members and $55 for non-members.
The second camp, Film Making 101, runs Monday to Friday, July 14-18. The camp, for kids in grades second through sixth, includes discovering the world of movie making. Students will write, direct, design costumes and star in an original production. Students also will receive a DVD of the movie created during the week. The cost is $55 for members and $65 for non-members.
The third camp, Earth, Moon and Starts, runs Tuesday to Friday, July 22-25. The camp, for kids in grades kindergarten through fifth, will focus on rocks, fossils and animals on earth, and space travel to the moon and beyond. Cost is $45 for members and $55 for non-members. The camp is sold out, the there is a waiting list students can be put on.
The final camp, Art Grab Bap, runs Tuesday, July 29 through Friday, Aug. 1. The camp, for kids in grades kindergarten through fifth, includes a week of art extravaganza. Students will explore sculpture, drawing, painting and other forms of art. Cost is $45 for members and $55 for non-members.
Each camps runs from 10 a.m. to noon and provides a hands-on, educational experience.
