Martha Elementary students, parents excited for new school
BARBOURSVILLE -- Students at Martha Elementary are enjoying their new digs. The first of five new schools being built in Cabell County, the new version of Martha Elementary has every techie toy a child and student could want.
Each room is equipped with four to five computer stations, a wall-mounted flat screen television, a ceiling-mounted prejoctor, an interactive SMART Board and a digital visual presenter.
Fifth-grader Tori Lycans said her classmates' jaws about dropped to the ground on the first day of school. She, like many of the older kids and veteran teachers, are happy to have separate art and music rooms, a library and a computer lab.
Parents, too, are excited about the new school, which held a ribbon-cutting ceremony Thursday night. Michelle Aliff, who has two children enrolled at Martha, said she knows their education just got better.
"(My husband and I) both feel very fortunate to have our kids be a part of this," she said.
