BOE might ask for rebids on demolition project
HUNTINGTON -- The Cabell County Board of Education will be advised tonight to rebid a project to demolish what is now called the old Barboursville Middle School.
The board meets at 7:30 p.m. today at the Central Office Board Meeting Room, 2850 5th Ave.
Superintendent William Smith will recommend to the board to reject the base bid demolition contract and the alternate for the demolition project. Smith also will recommend, according to the agenda, that the scope of work for the demolition be changed and rebid.
The lowest current bidder is Chapman Martin at $1.46 million.
Master Mechanical's bid came in at just under $1.6 million. The company also handled the demolition of the former Cammack campus that is now being turned into the future home of Southside Elementary and Huntington Middle.
BBL Carlton bid $1.789 million. All three will be given the opportunity to rebid the job.
The board also will be asked to approve a contract with The Developmental Therapy Center in the amount of $270,000 (not including mileage and other administrative costs). The deal would assure the provision of physical and occupational therapy services to students with disabilities.
Smith also is recommending a proposal to compromise and settle the eminent domain dispute regarding the property where the new Martha Elementary is located.
And, the board likely will approve Cabell Midland assistant principal Michael Baumann being transferred to the assistant principal position at the Cabell County Career Technology Center.
