HUNTINGTON -- Judge Dan O'Hanlon will administer the oath of office to Cabell County Board of Education members Ted T. Barr and Suzanne Oxley tonight at the board's first meeting of the new fiscal year.

Barr is beginning his third consecutive term, and Oxley is starting her second. Both were re-elected in the May 13 primary election.

Other items on the board's agenda tonight:

  • A board vote on bids for vending machines. Bids were received to provide 100 percent juice, water and healthy snack vending machines for Cabell County. The board is expected to approve the bid for Mountain Vending.
  • The board is likely to approve a bid from Pepsi-Cola to provide soft drink vending machines for Cabell County Schools staff.
  • Culloden Elementary is proposed as the official attendance area for students living in the Summer Acres subdivision. Beginning this fall, the new enrollees and kindergartners will be enrolled at Culloden. If a student has been attending Milton Elementary, he or she may continue to attend Milton until his or her elementary education is complete. A bus will continue to transport only those students for the next school year.

If a new enrollee wishes to attend Milton Elementary rather than Culloden, the parents may request a transfer to be reviewed by the Support Office. If the transfer is granted, the parent will be required to provide transportation.

The meeting starts at 7:30 p.m. at 2850 5th Ave., Huntington.
