FORT KNOX, Ky. -- Cadets from Huntington High School's Junior ROTC completed the Cadet Leadership Challenge Summer Encampment, conducted June 14-18 at Fort Knox, Ky.

The cadets completed an obstacle course, engaged in waterborne operations using rubber assault boats, prepared a one-rope bridge before making a stream crossing, trained on a series of climbing and rock wall challenges and rapelled from a 60-foot tower.

"The Leadership Challenge helps cadets build confidence and self-esteem by teaching them that they can overcome challenges and be successful," said Maj. Paul Clark, Huntington High School senior Army instructor. "The cadets are briefly taken away from home and given the opportunity to train at an outstanding facility while meeting other young men and women who are motivated by serving their country and communities."

The cadets meeting this year's challenge were Chris Leffingwell, Casey Williamson, Hawk Bruno, Ricky Paulding, Peggy Ross, Justin Roberts, Cory Westfall, Patrick Cummings, Cody Wallace, April Meadows and Brandon Morgan.

The Huntington High School JROTC unit has been consistently recognized for excellence by the U.S. Army. Recently, the unit was informed that it had been re-designated for the 11th consecutive year as an Honor Unit with Distinction, the highest rating bestowed on a JROTC battalion by the 7th Brigade U.S. Army Cadet Command.
