School board may vote to transfer old middle school
HUNTINGTON -- The Cabell County School Board could take action at its 5:30 meeting Tuesday evening to allow the current Huntington Middle School to be senior housing once the school is vacated.
The board may take action on the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development Section 202 Grant proposal and convey the property, according to the agenda.
The group seeking the old West MIddle is the Cabell County Community Services Organization, which intends to transform the school into senior housing. But it needs a federal grant to make it happen. In 2008, the school board approved the conveyance if a grant was secured.
The agenda also includes an update on the high school restructuring initiative by Assistant Superintendent Gerry Sawrey. The board also will take action on two service employee issues, including a 30-day suspension without pay for one and the termination of another for violation of county policy.
The Cabell County School board meets at 2850 5th Ave., Huntington.
The Wayne County Board of Education also has a Tuesday meeting, scheduled for 6:30 p.m. The agenda includes a presentation about Relay for Life and board votes on paving at Buffalo Middle.
The board meets at 212 North Court St., Wayne.
