BLESSING: All those knowing Effie Adkins of Bowen Creek Road have been blessed with another year of her life. This great friend, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother was treated to a cookout followed by cake and ice cream on Oct. 4 at her home for her 90th birthday. If there were only enough time and space, I could write an entire book of the things this Christian lady has endured but never gave up to remain the blessing she continues to be today.

AGAIN: How enjoyable it was to spend an hour or two with two of the finest friends anyone could ever ask for -- Eva Mae Spears and her daughter, Lou. It had been a long time since I visited with Eva Mae, and it reminded me once again of yesteryear when we vacationed and did many things together. Both have been true blessings and a part of my family since we became friends in the lat '60s when we began attending Roach Baptist Church near Salt Rock.
