CHEER: High school football season is here and cheerleaders who have practiced all summer are ready to cheer their teams to victory. Cabell Midland High School varsity cheerleaders are Kayla Bledsoe, Kinsey Hall, Loral Johnson, Taylor McNeel, Madison Shirkey, Aris Smith, Kelly Tackett, Kady Issa, Logan Lewis, Kayla Long, Anna Patrick, Kelsea Whaley, Alex Cooper, Haley Hall, Allison Harker, Jade Pinkerman, Tori Black, Emily Fulks, Makayla Waugh and Summer Shultz. Junior varsity cheerleaders are Kayte Eplin, Krystle Moore, Brooke Ramsby, Lexi Browning, Lauren Long, Rachel Reynolds, Cameron Toriseva, Tiffani Webb, Whitney Wright, Lindsey Cremeans, Shanley Crouse and Mary Estep.
CELEBRATION: In a newsletter to her church family at Kuhn Memorial Presbyterian Church, former Barboursville resident and Barboursville High School 1975 graduate, Debbie Plyburn Somerville, gave news of her family as they live in Mexico where Debbie and her husband, Ed, work as missionaries for World Evangelism for Christ. On May 15, 2010, Ed and Debbie, the parents of eight children, celebrated college graduations of their two oldest sons, Will and Ned. Will received his bachelor of arts degree in Bible and ESL from Columbia International University in South Carolina, and Ned graduated from Grove City College in Pennsylvania with a teaching degree in physics. Debbie is the daughter of the late Bill and Betty Plyburn.
BLACK EXPO: This is the last weekend to view the 2010 Black Expo art at the Renaissance Art Gallery in Huntington. Included in this show is work by award-winning artist and poet, Elaine Blue, along with screen prints by Brooksie Blue. Other artists are Joseph Gardner, Elliot Scott, Allyna Garrett, Taylor Fitzpatrick, Jocelyn Martin, and Chelsea Williams.
'REVIVE': Milton Baptist Church is sponsoring a youth rally featuring "Revive" from Sydney Australia at 6:30 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 18, at the West Virginia Pumpkin Park, Milton. Admission is free. Call 304-743-3461 or check the website, www.reviveband.com, for details.
BOARD GAMES: Bring a friend and join families at Pea Ridge United Methodist Church, 5747 Pea Ridge Road, for family game night from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday. Board game lovers are encouraged to bring one of their favorite games and a refreshment to share with others. Children must be accompanied by an adult. GFWC: The GFWC of Cox's Landing will meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 7, at the Lesage Lion's Club building on Kyle Lane. The club recently awarded two college scholarships, $1,000 each, to Heather Cazad and Terrence Spurlock. An open house reception will be held on from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 12, to celebrate the club's 50-year anniversary.
