BELTED: Don't mess with Megan Underwood. The daughter of Dan and Carrie Underwood recently earned her first degree black belt from Master Kim's School of Tae Kwon Do. Congratulations on your hard work and 2 1/2 years of study to achieve this accomplishment.

COOK: Joe Crockett, chef/instructor, is still in Huntington's Kitchen across from Pullman Square. At 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 7, he prepares tomato basil soup for a free cooking demonstration. MILITARY: Army Pvt. Jeffery W. Branham II graduated from basic combat training at Fort Jackson, Columbia, S.C. The 2009 graduate of Shelby Valley High School in Pikeville, Ky., is son of Ondrea Ford and nephew of James Newsome, both of Virgie, Ky.

AWARD: A big round of applause for Savannah's Restaurant. The Huntington restaurant received an "Award of Excellence" for its wine list of more than 300 wines from every region of the globe and chef Matt Parkins' new American cuisine. This is the restaurant's 11th straight year for gaining national recognition from Wine Spectator Magazine.

PARTICIPANTS: Two Cabell Huntington Hospital nurses were recently among the more than 300 from across America participating in a five-day educational convention in pediatrics. Candie Armstrong, RNC, and Lisa Davis, RNC, attended the 20th annual Society of Pediatric Nursing meeting in Orlando, Fla.

TRAIN: Get on board -- Collis P. Huntington Railroad Historical Society Inc. celebrates its 11th season and 51st anniversary with a 300-mile round trip from Huntington to Hinton, W.Va., and return through the 65-mile New River Gorge. MEMBERS: Some may have thought Terry and Sherry Houck were already members of Madison Avenue Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), since they've been active in the ministry for several years. The Houcks became official members Aug. 22 when they transferred their membership to MACC.
