Spring Valley High School student crowned pageant winner
HUNTINGTON -- Katie Wright, a student at Spring Valley High School, was recently crowned Miss Teen West Virginia International 2009.
The pageant took place at the Capital Complex in Charleston. She will go on to compete and represent West Virginia in the Miss Teen International Pageant in Chicago on July 23-25.
In addition to winning the overall crown, Wright was also awarded Most Photogenic, Best Interview and Most Beautiful Gown.
Wright's platform is the prevention of childhood obesity. She has been working with area schools and organizations by making appearances and speaking about the subject.
Her previous pageant wins include Miss Cabell County Teen Queen 2007 and Miss Wayne County Queen 2007.
Wright, who is entering her senior year at Spring Valley High School, has maintained a 4.0 grade point average. She is also a member of the National Honor Society, Booth Scholar, National Spanish Club and the varsity tennis team, where she was voted most improved player by the coaching staff.
Wright recently attended Girls State at Wheeling Jesuit University and was elected mayor. She was also chosen as Miss March Cover Model 2009. Wright is also a member of the Huntington Mall Fashion Advisory Board, where she was chosen as the outstanding junior achiever for the 2008-2009 year.
In her spare time Wright works part time at The Jewelry Show in Barboursville.
There will be a send off and good luck party for Wright from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, July 11, at the Community Room at the Huntington Mall. Lunch will be provided. Everyone is welcome.
