LEADER: Rodney King of Salt Rock was the leader of outstanding sales and customer satisfaction achievements at Moses AutoMall of Huntington for the month of May. Rodney, a member of the dealership since January 1999, received the "Salesperson of the Month Award."

NAMED: Since becoming Huntington police chief in 2007, he has skipped through the community policing model and other ways to fight crime in the area to become one of the most deserving and respected cops. Skip Holbrook was named Law Enforcement Officer of the Year by the West Virginia Association of Justice at its annual convention in Charleston. Hats off to this "tough cop" and head of the city police department.

THE END: It may be the end for coaching cheerleaders, but could be the beginning of a happy era for Donna Woody Dunn, who recently retired from her Marshall University position after more than 20 years. It's not goodbye for the cheerleading squad coach, as she will be around and ready to lend a hand to her alma mater, if needed.

DIRECTOR: The new face in the finance department at Cabell Huntington Hospital is Drew Hefner, CPA. The most recent chief financial officer for River Park Hospital with more than 18 years' healthcare finance experience has become the director of finance at CHH. He earned bachelor's and master's degrees in business administration from West Virginia University.

MILITARY: Air Force Airman 1st Class Madeline T. McEwen arrived for duty at Malmstrom Air Force Base, Great Falls, Mont. The security forces apprentice with less than one year of military service is assigned to the 341st Missile Wing. The airman, a 2008 graduate of Allen Central High, is the daughter of Ellen and Butch Patton of Eastern, Ky. Her husband, Justin, is son of Michael and Joann McEwen of Kent, Wash.

MASTER: Ginger Moosavi, daughter of Terry and Faye Lusher of Huntington and granddaughter of Elda Keefer, is a master -- she recently received her master's degree in nursing along with a degree in nurse anesthesia from Mountain State University in Beckley, W.Va. After completing clinical hours, she will be employed at St. Mary's Medical Center with River Cities Anesthesia Inc. As if this isn't enough to smile about, her husband, Ben, is the number 1 pick to begin a three-year fellowship in plastic surgery at Emory Hospital in Atlanta, Ga., in July 2010.

HORSE SENSE: Theresa Grant, attendance director for Huntington High School and an English teacher in Wayne and Cabell counties, was the guest of her daughter, Katie Grant of Louisville, Ky., to attend the races of Chantilly Crème at Royal Ascot in Great Britain. Katie is vice president of marketing and business development for PetFirst Healthcare. The Grants, who also had special privileges to meet with the royal family, were in England for one week without Robert Grant, husband and father.

TODAY'S BIRTHDAYS: One of the best physicians in this area, Charles "Chuck" Clements, chalks up another year, as do Janet Boley, Elizabeth Gardner, Robert Kiser, Rusty Armstrong, Robert Fisher Jr., Janet Boley, Mark Boley, Marvin Legg, Lisa Legg, Fonzo Perry, Joanna Strickland, Melaine June Roberts is five from two quarters (45), Rosanne Reese, Dawn Meadows, Recie Jackson, Noel Copen, Shay Cassidy, Serena Sutherlun, Rachel Wilson, Elizabeth Estep, Victoria Freeman, James Gibbs, Gary Adams, Owen Hamilton, Donald Hayes and Ben Martin. Husband and wife, Marvin and Lisa Legg share the same "candle day."

CHUCKLE: A man was car shopping. "I looked in the window of a car dealership recently and saw the most beautiful vehicles," he said. "A salesman came out and said, 'Come on in. They're bigger than ever and they last a lifetime!' " Later, the man learned he was talking about the payments.
