Renaissance gallery announces winners for miniature exhibit

HUNTINGTON -- The Renaissance Art Gallery is proud to announce the results of the judging for the 7th Annual National Miniature Exhibition.

Judging was done by internationally known Miniaturist John Allen Thompson. Mr. Thompson is the president of Miniature Painters, Sculptors and Gravers Society of Washington, D.C., one of the nation's most prestigious miniature societies.

Awards winners for 2007 are: Award of Excellence: Glenn Leung of Philadelphia for his work, "Siesta #4, watercolor; First place: Gail MacArgel of St. Peters Mo., for "Autumn Visit" Oil on Ivorine; 2nd place: Janet Laird Lagassee, of Auburn, Maine for "Duality" watercolor.

Merit Awards: Beverly Fotherinsham of Haymarket, Va., for her watercolor "Waiting"; Nar Steel of Adelphi, Md., for "Days End", oil on Ivorine; and "Sea Weeds" by Susan Tschantz of Scott Depot, W.Va., brush and ink.

Honorable Mentions: Andrew Gott of New Port Richey, Fla., for "Antigua Street", a graphite drawing; "17 Mile Drive" by Charlie Tweed of Ft. Meyers, Fla., watercolor; "Winter Mood" a watercolor by Lillianne Bowersock of Ona; and a photograph "Rock Candy" by Laura Moul of Milton.

Complimentary Awards: Nelida Dilorenzo of Zephru Hills, Fla., "Italian Vinyards" an oil painting; Gary Lapelle of Huntington, acrylic Ink work "Furry Cat"; Guy Purcell of Ashland, for his basswood carving, "Stingray;" Bruce H. Bowersock of Ona for "Free Flight" a watercolor; and lastly, Betty J. Stepp of Huntington for her photograph, "Light Play."

The Ohio River Border Initiative sponsored the event along with help from The World Federation of Miniaturists, as well as Best Western Huntington Mall Inn, Dr. Ryan and Stephanie Carlton of Davis Chiropractic of Barboursville, Vogue Beauty Salon, Benefit Design Serviced, LLC, and James River Studio, all of Huntington.
