BASKET CASE: You can put all your eggs in one basket by participating in Longaberger basket bingo sponsored by Resolutions2 at 1 p.m. Saturday, Sept 6, at VFW Post 9738, 227 Main St., Guyandotte. Doors open at 12:30 p.m. Proceeds help the West Virginia Breast and Cervical Cancer Diagnostic and Treatment Fund, which assists uninsured women throughout the state with diagnostic and treatment services for breast and cervical cancer.
BASICS: A "Computer Basics" course is from 1 to 3 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays this month at Goodwill Industries, 1005 Virginia Ave., beginning today. The cost is $100. Call Nancy Black, Career Center coordinator, at 304-523-7461.
MEET: A joint effort of The League of Women Voters of Huntington Area and Southside Neighborhood Organization to inform and involve the public about many aspects of voting, debates and election laws during the SSNO monthly meeting at 7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 4, at Junior League Building. SSNO also distributes its new brochure. Refreshments follow.

Valerie Steele is the coach, assisted by Cassie Hogsett. Kelli Marcum is the team mom.
LET'S PARTY: A jewelry party fundraiser is from 1 to 3:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 5, at Westmoreland Senior Center, 3609 Hughes St. Refreshments are served.
BABY CLAIRE: What a treat it was to visit with Scott and Cassie Parsons, while holding their new baby girl, Claire. She is truly a beautiful bundle of joy -- thanks Mommy and Daddy for sharing her with me (until she started crying).
WRESTLING: Ohio Championship Wrestling returns to the National Guard Armory in Ashland Saturday, Sept. 6. Doors open at 6 p.m. Bell time is 7:30 p.m. For more information, visit www.newocw.com.
MEETING: President Robin Spurlock hopes to discuss a fall dinner to benefit the scholarship fund during tonight's 7 p.m. meeting of GFWC of Cox's Landing. The meeting begins at 7 p.m. at Lions Club Building, Kyle Lane.
MILITARY: Air Force Airman Brett M. Cassidy graduated from basic training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas. Brett, a 2007 Northwest High graduate, is son of Phyllis Shirey and Mike Cassidy, both of Otway, Ohio.
MUM IS THE WORD: And the item being sold as a fundraiser for Huntington High School Show Choir. Available in a variety of colors and 8 inches in diameter, the mums cost $6. GOOD: It's always a pleasure to hear from Lillian Narcise, whether it's via a birthday card she forgot to mail or a note that arrives on time. Lil has been a part of my family for many years and continues to score high with her love, caring thoughts and warm heart.

CHUCKLE: A lawyer is painting his house when a hobo comes to ask if he can do something to earn a few dollars. The lawyer says, "Sure, take a can of this paint, go around to the back of the house and paint my porch." After 15 minutes, the hobo comes back to say he's finished. The lawyer says, "Already?" And the hobo says, "Yeah, but it isn't a Porsche, it's a Mercedes!"
