HOT DOG: Some of the best sauce around town will top those wieners on a bun during the hot dog sale beginning at 9 a.m. today at the Spirit of Faith Church, 1800 Sycamore St. rear, Kenova. The sale, also featuring a rummage sale, is sponsored by the Ladies Ministries. Call 304-453-6623.
SANGIN': Doris and Ervin Wells have been just a sangin' for 62 years with the Beverly Hills United Methodist Church choir. Recently, they set their choir robes aside for a seat on the pew while listening to others singing in the choir as they retired with more than six decades of "singing" service.
EMPLOYEE: Kristine Standifur, administrative secretary senior for the Marshall University geography department, was named MU Employee of the Month for June. She has been employed at MU since 1976. She was presented a plaque, balloon bouquet and a $100 check.
HISTORY: There's a little bit of history going on at the Huntington Museum of Art with Civil War exhibits offered through Sept. 21. Call 304-529-2701.
SUPER: Six lawyers from Huddleston Bolen, LLP, are outstanding. Fred Adkins, Richard Bolen, Tom Gilpin, Christopher Plybon, Bruce Stout and Marc Williams were recently honored in Super Lawyers Publication according to their practice specialty.
DIRECTING: Denise Pittenger comes from Chattanooga, Tenn., to Huntington to direct the Tri-State Literacy Council. Originally from Akron, Ohio, she graduated from Bowling Green State University with a special education degree and a master's degree in education with a focus on adult literacy from Marietta College. Her husband, David, is the new dean of Marshall University's College of Liberal Arts.
YOUNG: Jessie Noel may be young, but she's not restless. The 23-year-old Marshall University Nursing School grad is director of nursing at Midland Meadows Assisted Living Facility, near Ona. She began her career at age 15 working part time in another facility and went on to receive a nursing degree.
GRADS: Two 2004 Grace Christian High School graduates completed graduation requirements at Campbellsville University in Kentucky. Christina Sue Cole, daughter of Preston and Debbie Cole of Huntington who attends Grace Gospel Church, received a bachelor of science in business administration in marketing. Emily Rebecca Keck received a bachelor of science in social studies with a minor in secondary education.
SCHOLAR: Noelani Langille has been selected for membership in a national society. The Huntington High student is a member of The National Society of High School Scholars. Keep up the good work, Noelani.
ZAP IT: Oops, that's Zappin -- Craig Zappin, who is the new risk manager with Prestera Center for Mental Health Services Inc. Craig, a former case manager, earned his bachelor and master's degrees from Marshall University.
