LUNCHEON: Cabell County Retired School Employees meet for a noon luncheon Tuesday, Sept. 9, at YWCA, 633 5th Ave.
BRIDGE: It's an honor Noah Stephens of Wayne is most deserving of. After receiving the Silver Star, Purple Heart and Good Conduct medals while serving his country nearly 60 years ago, Noah was recently honored by the State of West Virginia with the unveiling of a bridge in Dickson. Noah is an uncle to our West Virginia delegate, Dale Stephens. The Noah Stephens Bridge sits along W.Va. 152.
EXCELLENT: After 40 years at Buffalo Elementary School in Wayne County, Cricket Robinson has witnessed a first-time honor -- the school has been honored as a school of excellence. Although this is a happy note, school personnel could be sad due to the resignation of its principal, Michele Blatt.
ANNIVERSARY: It's the 35th anniversary for Greenbrier Heights Garden Club. A celebration begins at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 9, at Tascali's, U.S. 60 East, Barboursville.
SCHOLARSHIPS: Three Tolsia High students were among 82 receiving scholarships for the fall semester at Ashland Community and Technical College. Congratulations to Teehia M. Newsome, Kali K. Parsley and Adam R. Pertee.
RE-ACCREDITED: The six-member staff at St. Mary's Medical Center's Non-Invasive Cardiovascular Department received a three-year reaccreditation. The staff includes Gina Davis, RN, BSN; Sandy Leonard, RVT, BS, RRT; Cathy Hamlin, RN, BS, RVT; Dawn Moore, RVS; Cathy Paul (RT); and Lee Haikal, MD, and Ronald Barebo, MD, co-medical directors.
REMINDER: As a reminder, the annual Maynard reunion is from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 14, at Cabwaylingo State Park. A free concert, car and bike show, children's activities and more are offered. Call 304-385-4539 or 304-849-4404.
LESSONS: Come on down to Premiere Dance Studio, where you can enjoy mild aerobic exercise while learning to dance and make new friends. Ballroom dance lessons in waltz, swing, cha cha and others are offered from 10 to 11:30 a.m. each Saturday for six weeks, beginning Sept. 13, at 716 6th St. Dress is casual. PERU CREW: First Presbyterian Church crew recently returned from the Peru trip where members distributed medicine, conducted Bible classes, rebuild step and helped in many other areas. Participants included Bill Miller, Zach Miller, Monty and Sherry Fulton, Steve and Marcy Hatten, John and Ashley Stephens, Lynne Welch, Jim Ross, Anna Keffer, Barbara Warner and Skip Seibel.
