CALL: The honor roll, that is ... Eliza Amos, Cody Collings, James Keyser, Kenneth Kiesel, Cole Rucker and Jessica Tomblin received a grade point average of 4.0 for the third six weeks at Ceredo-Kenova Middle School. Congratulations to these eighth-graders.
MILITARY: Army National Guard Staff Sgt. Kenneth R. Harless is returning after a deployment to Iraqi or Afghanistan in support of Operations Iraqi Freedom or Enduring Freedom, respectively. The squad leader with 269th Military Police Company based in Murfreesboro, Tenn., with four years' experience is a 1991 Wayne High graduate. The sergeant is son of Kenneth R. and Rosita G. Harless of Lavalette.
TONES: The men of ThunderTones Chorus, Huntington Tri-State Chapter of Barbershop Harmony Society, offer their annual February fundraiser Friday-Sunday, Feb. 12-14. The Singing Valentines package includes two old-fashioned love songs, a memento gift and personalized Valentine card for $50. Call 304-302-NOTE.
PARTICIPATE: Six Cabell Midland High School Band students participated in the University of Louisville Honor Bands. They are Stacy Meadows and Chelsea McCallister, clarinets; AJ Zabel and Gabe Muncy, trumpets; Emma Hensley, baritone; and Brian Crawford, trombone. Two of the six -- Stacy and Chelsea -- were chosen for the All-State Band, along with Cory Cutler, percussion; Jeff Smith, tuba; and Tyler Donathan, saxophone.
SHOW/DINNER: You can be "tweeted" to a show and dinner featuring Cajun foods and music by Backyard Stompers Tuesday, Feb. 16. ARTS presents "Fat Tuesday" at 5 p.m. in the Renaissance ballroom, 900 8th St. The cost is $15. Reservations are due by Friday, Feb. 12. Call 304-733-2787.
FRIENDLY: She's always friendly and takes time to say hello. I'm speaking of that fine woman down the Kenova way -- Sallie Plymale. Chatting with her a moment or two is such a pleasure. It was certainly a blessing to see her last week, especially since she was a "little under the weather" earlier this winter.
GATHERING: The gathering of Huntington East High School Class of 1952 takes place with "lupper" at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 10, at Ponderosa, U.S. 60 East. The all-around good chit-chatting time includes 15-20 classmates eating, drinking coffee or soft drinks and gabbing.

CHUCKLE: Two gentlemen were sitting on a bench under a tree at the park when one turns to the other and says: "Slim, I'm 83 years old now and I'm just full of aches and pains. I know you're about my age. How do you feel?" Slim says, "I feel just like a newborn baby." "Really? like a newborn baby?" the man said. "Yep," Slim replied. "No hair, no teeth, and I think I just wet my pants."
