HUNTINGTON -- There's only one cure for vocalist Beth McVey's spring fever -- sing it out.
"A Woman on the Edge," a cabaret detailing McVey's self-described spring "squirrely-ness," will be presented at 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday in the newly renovated Renaissance Ballroom at Arts Resources for the Tri-State, 900 8th St. Pianist Bruce Rous joins her as accompanist.
Tickets are required and can be purchased for $25, which includes admission, wine and hors d'oeuvres.
"My feeling about a cabaret is that the audience should know a little more about me by the time they leave, by the songs that are chosen and the way I choose to present them. Cabarets are very personal," McVey said. "So, what I've done with 'Woman on the Edge' is take that feeling and piece songs together that describe it."
"That feeling" is spring fever, which McVey said has hit her hard this year.
"I don't know what's going on. There's this anticipation that something should happen, and it hasn't happened yet," she offered. "We've got some really great songs -- 'Cell Block Tango' from 'Chicago,' 'Twisted,' which Bette Midler has done, 'Alto's Lament,' 'I've Been Here Before.' "
The show will be an inauguration, of sorts, for the ballroom, which was recently updated. A grand piano has been moved into the room for the cabaret. The room will hold about 150 people for the hour-long show.
"We've done a lot to make the ballroom really fabulous, and this is the first show in there," McVey said. "This is going to help me work through this spring fever thing."
