Quirky Portland-based trio wraps up first Eastern tour at the V Club

October 03, 2009 @ 12:05 AM

HUNTINGTON -- The Portland-based band The Quick and Easy Boys aren't afraid of wearing John Waters-esque mustaches or of ripping their shirts off during their concerts or of singing about girls who like riding with their boots on.

The band, on its first concert tour in the East, sure isn't afraid of riding into a college city that started knocking back beers at 10 a.m. on a Homecoming Saturday.

Tonight, Saturday, Oct. 3, the quirky trio plays with homegrown funk-rockers The Yetti and Luke Jivetalker at the V Club, 741 6th Ave., Huntington.

Doors open at 8 p.m.

Formed in 2005 at the University of Oregon in Eugene, the Quick and Easy Boys have been making a name for themselves up and down the West Coast with their tongue-in-cheek, throwback sense of stage humor and ability to get audiences out on the dance floor grooving to the band's college-rocked, porno funk.

Made up of Jimmy Russell, also known as Elvis O'Reilly on vocals, guitar and keys; Sean Badders (Bon Shatters) on vocals, bass and keys and Michael Goetz (Uncle T. Wankster) on vocals, drums and percussion, the band is touring off its latest CD, "Bad Decisions With Good People."

Goetz said the guys have been digging on this 20-city tour that has them playing all over the East Coast and now making their way back across the country slinging out their nightly dose of "honk-a-delic" music that stirs up dashes of Funkadelic, Willie Nelson and The Minutemen.

Goetz said the band took the summer off to record most of a new CD in Portland. It is coming out in February.

He said this East Coast turnaround has been a great time to party it up with new fans and clear their heads from the studio.

"We've gotten a really good response and some really good turnouts at every venue," Goetz said. "It's been really neat and new to us. We've never been to the East Coast so we're getting to meet new people and a new culture in a way."

They've had pretty good tour guides for their gigs around the D.C. area as they hooked up with good friends and V Club regulars The Bridge.

"So far that has been great and one of the main reasons we wanted to come East to meet up with our good friends in The Bridge," Goetz said. "They're super nice guys and super good musicians."
