Dave Lavender: Jesco White to get Shamrock's Pub dancing
Shamrock's Pub, 2050 3rd Ave., has kept that Marley's Doghouse vibe by leaving room in the inn at the shotgun bar (description of the narrow, long dimensions, not the clientele), with a wide birth of bands from Adam Bieniek and The Greens to A Place of Solace.
But to be honest, there hasn't been enough dancing at a place that claims to be Irish.
OK, dancing deficiency problem solved.
Shamrock's has tickets on sale now for Nov. 15 when the clock strikes 10 p.m. and an evening begins with the one-and-only Jesco White, "The Dancin' Outlaw," along with Jay Hill and opening act The Good Ol' Boys And A Girl.
Cost is $10 advance or $12 at the door.

Songwriters In the Round
Go ahead and get this one on the calendar, too.
Catlettsburg native Stephen Salyers, who's busting a move in Nashville trying to make his way in the music biz, comes back at 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 24, to the Paramount Arts Center, where he'll host a cool show called, "October Songs: Songwriters In the Round Benefit Concert."
Using the story-and-song-swapping format made famous by Music City's Bluebird Cafe, the songwriters night will include a who's who of area writers, including the nationally traveling troubadour Rob McNurlin, Angie Fletcher, Steve and Carla Hunter, Mike Morgan, Dana Romanello and Jeff Ellis.
Admission is $12. All proceeds go to a scholarship that is named in honor of Travis Hall, a Pikeville College graduate and friend/former junior high and high school classmate of Salyers. Hall was killed in a car crash in July 2007.

Sunday in the South
We were lucky enough to catch the Sunday afternoon gospel set at the West Virginia Pumpkin Festival of 17-year-old Dawson Bryant High School senior Katie Owens.
She's got an amazing voice and is putting it to good use.
As part of her class called Hornet Service Learning, she has organized a benefit sing from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday, at Paul Porter Park in Coal Grove for a little boy, Jacob Thacker, who has been diagnosed with brain cancer.
Another young country talent, who is no stranger to the music stages of the Tri-State, Bridget Reynolds, will also perform.
Raging @ The Bull
We had a great time a couple weeks ago during the Hospice of Huntington cruise on the Ohio River with some of our favorite area bands.
Those bands are all busy this weekend. The 1937 Flood makes a road trip to Tamarack, The Best of West Virginia in Beckley, for its Sunday @ Two Concert Series.
Don't ask me what time it starts.
Here in Huntington, one of the best bands in the land, Angie Fletcher, her husband Greg Fletcher, Corky Holbrook and Greg Lawrence, play The Raging Bull, 4840 Piedmont Road, on Fridays and Saturdays for the month of October.
Having A Ball
OK, now I feel old.
Beginning Monday, Oct. 20, MTV2's Headbangers Ball will celebrate its 20th anniversary.
The longest show on MTV replaced Heavy Metal Mania, helmed by Dee Snider of Twisted Sister fame, and had a couple hosts early on with Adam Curry and then Riki Rachtma.
Jamey Jasta of Hatebreed-fame has taken over the reins and this next week's schedule includes MTV Essential: Metallica at 11 p.m. Monday; Avenged Sevenfold: Live in Long Beach at 11 p.m. Tuesday; at 10 p.m. Monday through Thursday, "Best of Headbangers Ball Video Blocks."
At 10 p.m. Saturday, MTV2 will premiere the Headbangers Ball Special Anniversary Edition with a round-table discussion with some of Headbangers most notable VJ's such as Rachtman, Snider and Jasta.
