LATE: Arriving too late for the June 30, anniversary list was Sonny and Julie McGill, celebrating No. 6.

PATRIOTIC: C-K Alumni Band, longest-running all-volunteer band in Tri-State, presents its annual Independence Day concert at 7 p.m. Friday, July 4, at Kenova Towne Square. Directed by Charles M. Oshel, the band is joined by Saints Alive Choir at intermission. Admission is free. Those attending may bring lounge chairs as available seating is limited.

SECOND TIME: Dr. Chong Kim, head of Marshall University Lewis College of Business's management and marketing division, is interim dean of the college, effective June 13. Dr. Kim served as interim dean of the college from 2003 until Dr. Paul Uselding was hired. Uselding resigned the position.

NEW MEMBERS: Bethany Freeman and Victoria Freeman are new members at Fifth Avenue Baptist Church.

LISTED: Congratulations to Elizabeth Anne Baldwin, daughter of Gary and Neva Baldwin of Huntington. She earned a spot on the President's List for spring semester at Elon University in Elon, N.C.

ONLY: Raymond Spurlock was recognized as the only great-grandfather in attendance at the Father's Day service sponsored by the former Twentieth Street Baptist Church at Tri-State Fire Academy.

BUY IT? That's one of the new duties for Todd Riley, purchasing manager at Cabell Huntington Hospital. Todd, a Marshall University graduate in 1994 with a BBA in health care management, has been with CHH since 2004 as director and assistant director of housekeeping. He also manages the acquisition of services and equipment for CHH departments and negotiates vendor contracts.

GREAT: When Jacob Clifford Arthur came into the world on June 1, Tom and Midge Arthur of Madison Avenue Christian Church became great-grandparents. Jacob Clifford is the son of T.J. and Lisa Arthur.

LEARNER: Planets, geographical locations and climates in different regions in the world are only a few interests for Jordan Ray Rutherford. The 9-year-old son of Suzanne Rutherford of Barboursville and Michael Jackson Ramey of Charleston has made many proud again -- he maintained a 4.0 grade point average for the entire year at Village of Barboursville Elementary. Jordan also enjoys playing with his less-than-1-year-old niece, Haylie Grace; his dog, Daisy May; and cat, Lucy. Also on his pleasures list is playing SpongeBob video games and swimming. Keep up the good work, Jordan.

AWARDED: Kali Karleen Parsley, daughter of Larry and Doris Parsley of Fort Gay, W.Va., was recently awarded the Three Rivers Medical Center 2008 Hospital Scholarship. Kali, a Tolsia High graduate, hopes to pursue a career in nursing at Ashland Community and Technical College.

CHUCKLE: A judge told the defendant he was accused of stealing a typewriter. "How do you plead?" The defendant said, "I'm innocent, Your Honor. That whole thing was a mistake." The judge asked how that could be. The defendant answered, "I thought it was the cash register."
