Thursday Community News: Brenda Lucas
FOURTH: Have a happy and safe Independence Day on Friday!
DEPLOYED: Army National Guard Sgt. Justin R. Perry has been mobilized and activated at Fort McCoy, near Sparta, Wis., for deployment to an overseas forward operating base to support the mission of Operation Enduring Freedom. Justin, combat engineer with 206th Engineer Battalion in Prestonsburg, Ky., has more than two years' military experience. Justin, a 2004 grad of Sheldon Clark High, is grandson of Don Perry of Inez, Ky. His wife, Ashleigh, is daughter of Stacy McQueen of Prestonsburg, Ky.
UNBELIEVABLE: Tell me it can't be possible that Brittany Morgan Twohig is old enough to be married. Brittany and Jared Thomas Brownfield, son of Ron and Janie Brownfield of Ona, were recently wed at Pea Ridge Baptist Church. In my mind, Brittany, daughter of Jim and Karen Twohig of Barboursville, is the beautiful, somewhat shy, Girl Scout selling and delivering cookies. How time flies. She graduated from Cabell Midland High in 2004 and summa cum laude from MU this year with a BA in public relations from the School of Journalism and Mass Communications. Here's wishing a lifetime of blessings and happiness.
LATE: Here's hoping Rosetta Blake had a happy 65th birthday on June 29. I received the announcement too late for insertion in that date's list.
CRUISIN': Chesapeake Band Boosters conduct a cruise-in style car show, community rummage sale and flea market from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, July 5, in the parking area between Chesapeake Middle and High schools. Spaces are $15 or $25 for two. Car registration is $10. Free T-shirts given to the first 25 registrants. Door prizes and random drawings are offered. Call Charlotte McCoy, 740-867-3979 or 740-442-1148.
AWARDED: Westmoreland Chapter of National Society of American Revolution recognized three Wayne County graduates as recipients of the Good Citizen Award. Each received a DAR Good Citizen pin, certificate and wallet recognition card. Lee Elizabeth Rice, Spring Valley High grad winner of Provost Gold Scholarship, is daughter of Mary Glenn Rice of Huntington. She plans to enter Baylor University in Waco, Texas, to study international business. Tyler Rutherford, Wayne High grad winning the A. Michael Perry Scholarship, is son of Mike and Rosemary Rutherford of Wayne. He plans to attend Marshall University to become a veterinarian. Michael Hatfield, a Tolsia High grad, is the son of David and Rhonda Marcum of Crum. He entered the U.S. Marine Corps at Parris Island in South Carolina to become a combat engineer.
