Friday's Community News: Joyce Spencer
FOURTH CELEBRATION: Bring a lawn chair, a picnic and your family tonight to the Village of Barboursville's annual Fourth of July Celebration at the Barboursville Park amphitheatre. The Mike Campbell Trio will provide entertainment from 6-10 p.m. The fireworks begin at 10 p.m.
RECYCLING AND VEGGIES: Take advantage of two new opportunities available in The Village: a paper and plastics recycling program and a farmers market on Saturday mornings. The recycling containers are located on Depot Street next to the city garage. The farmers market, located on the corner of Main and Depot streets, is open on Saturdays from 7-11 a.m. throughout the summer.
GRADUATIONS: Judy Wolfe Dean of Huntington attended two family celebrations recently -- the high school graduation of her grandson, Mason Paul Kyle, and the college graduation of her daughter, Lisa Dean Kyle. Mason Paul graduated with honors from Thomas Worthington High School, Worthington, Ohio, and plans to attend Marshall University this fall. On June 22, Lisa graduated magna cum laude from DeVry University in Columbus with a business administration degree. She is employed with Cardinal Health in Dublin, Ohio, as a project analyst. Lisa is the daughter of the late Jimmy Dean and is a 1988 graduate of Huntington East High School.
DANIEL REUNION: Dorsey and Dixie Daniel of Barboursville will enjoy lots of good food and family fun as they host their annual family reunion this weekend for about 55 family members.
FOOD AND MUSIC: Kelly Floyd of Huntington has broadened her career from providing DJ services for parties to also providing picnic-style catering services. All foods are homemade. She uses a secret family barbeque recipe that her parents used in restaurants in the 1960s. To contact Kelly, call 304-633-7846.
NEW BABY: Eric and Stephanie Fetty became parents for the second time on May 31, when their daughter, Ella Marie, was born. Ella has a big brother, Jackson, and her proud grandparents are Bill and Susan Wagoner of Barboursville, Troy and Karen Gibson of Milton, and Roger Fetty of Milton. Great-grandparents are Bill Wagoner of Barboursville, Bill and Violet Marie of Milton, Earl Fetty of Ona, and Hazel Gibson of Milton.
85TH BIRTHDAY: Congratulations to Elsie Hill who celebrated her 85th birthday June 24, with a luncheon at the Riviera Golf and Country Club. Members of the ladies' golf league attended. The luncheon was hosted by Elsie's daughter, Barbara Adkins, of Wetumpka, Ala.
DRESS AS A COW: On Friday, July 11, the two Chick-fil-A restaurants at the Huntington Mall in Barboursville will celebrate the chain's fourth annual Cow Appreciation Day event by offering a free meal to any customer who isn't "too chicken" to visit the restaurants fully dressed as a cow. For those too timid to wear spots from head to toe, Chick-fil-A will give a complimentary entrée to customers partially dressed in cow attire, such as a cow-spotted scarf, purse, hat or other accessory. Larry Pittman, franchise operator of the two Huntington Mall restaurants, said that the day is intended to be a fun way to reward customers with free food and also to enjoy seeing the creativity of the community.
