DANCERS: Not only were six girls from Wayne County dancers, but also princesses by performing in the show "12 Dancing Princesses" at the Jeslyn Performing Arts Center in Huntington in June. Alexis Conley, Wayne Elementary, starred as a waiter and jumping bean; Cassidy Waugh, Wayne Elementary, starred as Princess Hadley; Delaney Waugh, Wayne Elementary, starred as a French maid; Caroline Miller, Kellogg Elementary, starred as Princess Addison; Savannah Miller, Kellogg Elementary, starred as Princess Ellerie; and Jess Linton, Vinson Middle, starred as a waiter and a Silver Tree.

MILITARY: Army National Guard Spec. Charles A. Randolph has been mobilized and activated at Fort McCoy, near Sparta, Wis., for deployment to overseas forward operating base to support mission of Operation Enduring Freedom. Charles, a light-wheeled vehicle mechanic with 206th Engineer Battalion in Prestonsburg, Ky., has served in the military two years. The 2007 grad of Allen Central High in Eastern, Ky., is son of Wilbert D. and Michelle A. Hughes of Martin, Ky.

MANAGER: Nathel Lewis, a manager with Autism Services for nine years, has been promoted to training coordinator. She has an associate's degree in sign language, a bachelor of science degree in psychology from Fairmont State College and a master's degree in psychology from Marshall University. She is also working toward board certification in behavioral analysis.

FUNNY THING: The final weekend to see "A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum" is approaching, Friday-Sunday, July 27-29, at The Renaissance Center, 900 8th St. Performances by ARTS Resources of Tri-State begin at 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday for $15, with dinner at 6:30 p.m. costing $15. A matinee begins at 2 p.m. Sunday, preceded by brunch at 12:30 p.m. for $12. For reservations, call 304-733-2787.

GRAD: Congratulations to Rachel Sommerville, granddaughter of Lois Merritt with New Baptist Church. Rachel graduated from Richwood High School.

A FIRST: Speaking in front of a large crowd was never something Joshua Hammack wanted to do; however, he stood before more than 10,000 in the Joyce Center as valedictorian at University of Notre Dame. Joshua, a St. Joseph Central Catholic High grad in 2004, had a 3.99 GPA and was a member of the dean's list each semester since his freshman year. He plans to attend law school.

SPECIAL DAY: Every day is special for those knowing Katie Frazier, but today is an extra special day for her. The Chesapeake High senior, granddaughter of Betty Adkins, turns 18 years old. Here's wishing this fine, friendly young lady the best of all birthdays. The family, especially Granny Betty, and friends are very proud of Katie.

CHUCKLE: An elderly man told his pastor about a variety of health problems. His hearing and eyesight were going, he couldn't remember things. He said, "I don't know why God just doesn't take me." His pastor tried to reassure him by saying, "God must still have something for you to do." The old man snapped, "Well, I'm not going to do it?"
