Don Daniel McMillian: Vest home now houses Huntington business
Located at 522 7th Ave., the former Joseph M. Vest home was designed by the architect J. B. Stewart and built in 1901. The red brick and rusticated stone home's verandah was once supported by ionic columns. There is a turret tower with the front gable and stone banding on the first and second floor.
Joseph M. Vest was President of the Alemma Coal Company. His wife, Fay Vest, was in the commercial travel business. A sister, Maude Vest, also resided in the home. She was a professional secretary.
Today the home is the office of Hood Reality.
Don Daniel McMillian's books "On The Threshold of Splendor, Historic Homes & Families," "The Underground Railroad Lawrance County, Ohio & Cabell County, Virginia" and "The Very Best, West Virgiia's 55 Counties" are available at Amazon.com, Love Hardware, Richard's Hallmark, The Old Village Roaster, Cabell Huntington Convention & Visitors Bureau and Stadium Bookstore.
