Outdoor theater offers variety for every taste this summer season

HUNTINGTON -- Whether you want to get a little shook up, enjoy watching a family feud or are a history buff looking for something outside the textbooks, there is an outdoor theater experience designed for you this summer.

Here's a round-up of area choices:

Huntington Outdoor Theatre

"ALL SHOOK UP"

Huntington Outdoor Theatre presents "All Shook Up," the jukebox musical featuring the tunes of rock star Elvis Presley.

WHEN: July 10-12, 17-19 and 24-26; The amphitheater opens at 6:30 p.m. nightly. Pre-show entertainment is at 7 p.m., main show begins at 8:30 p.m.

WHERE: Ritter Park Amphitheater

COST: Adults $16; Seniors and children ages 5-12 $14; Children under 5 free; Pick up tickets at the Big Sandy Superstore Arena box office or at the amphitheater gates the night of the shows beginning at 6 p.m.

"WILLY WONKA"

The search for the golden ticket is on. Roald Dahl's "Willy Wonka" is a scrumptious musical theater treat for the entire family.

Jenny Wiley Theatre

"SMOKE ON THE MOUNTAIN"

It's the summer of 1938 and the congregation of Mount Pleasant Baptist Church in the hills of North Carolina is in for a special treat for its first revival. The pastor has invited the somewhat wacky Singing Sanders Family to get the spirit moving. This musical comedy combines classic gospel tunes with sidesplitting humor.
