PICNIC: Several former Barboursville High School band members attended the first BHS all-class band alumni picnic a few weeks ago and represented classes from 1952-1994. Attendees were: Helen Cottle Summerfield (1952), Ron Cox (1953), Wilma Smith (1954), Rheta Pinson Keefer (1958), Hazel Merrimee (1958), Cliff Riley (1975), Peggy Walters Kennedy (1975), James Maynard (1975), Tom McComas (1977), Mike Harris (1979), Toni Weaver (1985), Sherri Weaver (band booster treasurer 1984-85), Amy Beal-Deal (1986), Rachael Smith Siddens (1987), Robbie Howard (1987), Tammy Adkins-Smith (1988), Ed Cordle (1992) and Tara Riley (1994).

DINNER: Members of Barboursville High School classes of 1953-54 will have their annual Christmas dinner at 6 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 5, at the Barboursville Community Center. Contact Wilma Smith, 304-733-1020, or Ed Smith, 304-736-5194, for information.

OFFICER: On Nov. 18, Brad Simmons was sworn in as the newest officer of the Barboursville Police Department. Simmons has worked in law enforcement for 13 years.

PARENTS: Congratulations to first-time parents Justin and April Coffey, whose daughter Sophia Rian was born Oct. 18, 2009, in Charlotte, N.C. Proud grandparents are Mike and Nancy Coffey of East Pea Ridge. Justin is a 1998 graduate of Cabell Midland High School and a 2003 grad of Marshall University.

GRADUATE: Kudos to my grandson, Corey Watson, who graduates Nov. 5, from Marshall University with a bachelor of business administration degree in marketing. He is a 2005 graduate of Cabell Midland High School. His parents are Bill and Andy Watson of Barboursville. His grandparents are Glen and Dorcas Watson of East Pea Ridge and Dick Spencer and I of Barboursville.

LUNCHEON: The Christian Women's Connection will have an "All Aboard Christmas Luncheon" from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Dec. 10 at the Renaissance Room of the Family Life Center, 5275 West Pea Ridge Road, Huntington. Paul Fulks, a railroad enthusiast, will be featured, and Harold Munson of Churchville, Va., will be the speaker. Reservations ($14) must be made by Dec. 7, by calling Sara at 304-736-0994 or Delora at 304-736-6719.

SHOW: "A Little Victories Christmas" will be presented at 7 p.m. today, Dec. 4 at the Renaissance Center, 900 8th St., Huntington. Tickets ($10 for adults and $6 for children 12 and under) are available at the door. Susan Nicholas of WSAZ News Channel 3 will host the musical, fun-filled evening of family Christmas entertainment. Performers are Traci Ann Stanley, Katie Owens, Tim Irr, Paul Callicoat, Nancy Carter Dancers, the Thundertones, Jay Oakes, the Kidd Brothers and the C-K Middle School choir. The event is sponsored by Appalachian Power. Proceeds will be used to support the animals.

GAMES: Take a break from your hectic holiday schedule and join several local families who will be playing games like Monopoly, Scrabble and Yahtzee from 7 to 9 p.m. Dec. 11 at Pea Ridge United Methodist Church, 5747 Pea Ridge Road. Board game lovers may bring one of their favorite games and a refreshment to share with others. Children must be accompanied by an adult.
